Hammond Organs & Leslie Speakers were made by the thousands from 1934 for the organ & 1940 for the Leslie. No other brands have withstood the test of time like a Hammond & Leslie. The newest of the mechanical tone wheel organs are now 32 yrs old. Hammonds & Leslies are still to this day, in high demand for the church market. These instruments are being used harder & more frequently than ever, and as a result, servicing likewise needs to be more detailed. One thing to keep in mind if you are considering having your organ or Leslie checked out, is that we always evaluate the instrument before doing any major repairs. The electronics in these instruments are quite old & not delivering peak performance for institutional use. We provide complete rebuild of Leslie amps & cabinets. The amps are stripped of every component, except the transformers. New tube sockets, resistors, capacitors, diodes, & tubes are reinstalled. The sound difference is amazingly enhanced like when the amp was new. The motors are removed & disassembled, cleaned & reinstalled with new rubber bushings, belts & bearings. Our facility also includes a woodshop. We can repair or reconstruct wood parts that are no longer available. We manufacture new pedal boards for tone wheel Hammonds . The components wood & metal are all new. * George Smith's Music Center repairs nearly all brands, makes, and models of organs.

One of the most important aspects of maintaining a piano is having it tuned on a regular basis. The tuning of a piano is the equivalent to changing the oil in your vehicle. Your piano will sound best and give the musician the most enjoyment when it is tuned regularly and kept in proper playing condition. Modern day pianos were specifically designed to be tuned to the international pitch standard of A-440 Hz. This means that the A above middle C is tuned to 440 Hz. The intervals between tunings can vary. Institutional instruments will probably require more frequent tunings than a piano in the home. On the same note, a piano sitting in the home, never being played anymore still requires regular tunings, just as if it were being played every day. Controlling the humidity level of your piano is another very important consideration. The ideal level for a piano is 42% RH. A piano will most likely see huge swings in the humidty level from season to season, thereby making the instrument very unstable in regards to the tuning. Excessive moisture can cause the keys to stick and the piano action to be sluggish. On the other extreme, dryness will cause a solid spruce soundboard to develop cracks and separation of the ribs from the soundboard. We sell, install and highly recommend a Damp-Chaser climate control system for your piano. A piano with the climate control system is a much more stable instrument, maintaining proper pitch (with proper tunings) from season to season, diminishing the chances of sticky keys, and in the long term stuctural failure of the piano. Most if not all piano manufacturers also recommend the use of a Damp-Chaser climate control system for your piano. George Smith's Kimball Music Center opened September 27, 1966 in Anderson, Indiana. George and Norma, to start out, had a small inventory of Kimbal pianos and organs as well as a teaching studio. Lonnie and Scott, George and Norma's two sons, grew up in the business helping on deliveries, set up for fairs, organizing the shop, etc. In 1969, the present location was bought and moved in to. The business became incorporated and was renamed George Smith 's Music Center, Inc. that very same year. Since 1969, the store has been added on to in three different stages. From the front it appears to be very small; once inside there are showrooms, teaching studios. Then if you venture on to the back into the warehouse, you will find a workshop and woodshop which have all been added on to further satisfy our customers as best we can. Lonnie and Scott service the pianos and organs in the tri-state area and beyond. Both of which have a degree in electronics. George has played professional most of his life; for presidents, first ladies, senators, church conventions, weddings, and funerals. He is also the staff organist at the beautiful Paramount Theatre in Anderson. George Smith's Music Center Inc, is soley owned and operated by the Smith family. We will be here for years to come, God willing, serving you with beautiful Hammond organs, acoustic/digital pianos, teaching, service as well as any other of your musical needs.
