The air was once more filled with music from several more of our students. Proceeding into the hour-long student program, there were various renditions of tunes and songs. Many of which were not familiar or had never been heard before. The delight, the high hopes, the anticipations of pleasure, with which the average pupil comes to the first music lessons should be an inspiration to every teacher. To Norma Smith, this excitement has paid off over the years as she teaches these little finger to play the 88 notes of the keyboard. Not only does she teach little fingers, but also grown adult ones as well. Each year about 30 parents and relatives help get the students to and from George Smith’s Music Center for their lessons. This night is one that showcases their accomplishments that have been reached from all of their hard work and dedication throughout the year. Norma not only teaches and guides the fingers over the keys, but with her magic display of words, she is able to teach 2 young men who are visually impaired. Jason, who is 22, also sings and has taken lessons from Norma for a period of 10 years. He has also performed his singing talents in various locations and venues including the Anderson Paramount Theatre. Kurt, 13, has been taking piano lessons for 2 years and is making great strides. To round out the evening, George Smith brought one of his adult students to “center stage” as they performed 2 duets. This part of the performance is a prime example that by staying the course throughout one’s musical career, great accomplishments can be made. George and Norma Smith, who together have been a musical duet for over 53 years, encourage parents to, “Start the little ones early!” By starting them out early on, they are that much more apt to get a grip on life with the 88 keys. Also by starting young, not only will students be able to create musical happiness throughout their entire lives, but also have miraculous skill to fall back upon and share with others! To view pictures from this evening's recital, please go to our Pictures page. Once again, George and Norma would like to thank everyone for attending and making it a very exciting night.

George Smith's Kimball Music Center opened September 27, 1966 in Anderson, Indiana. George and Norma, to start out, had a small inventory of Kimbal pianos and organs as well as a teaching studio. Lonnie and Scott, George and Norma's two sons, grew up in the business helping on deliveries, set up for fairs, organizing the shop, etc. In 1969, the present location was bought and moved in to. The business became incorporated and was renamed George Smith 's Music Center, Inc. that very same year. Since 1969, the store has been added on to in three different stages. From the front it appears to be very small; once inside there are showrooms, teaching studios. Then if you venture on to the back into the warehouse, you will find a workshop and woodshop which have all been added on to further satisfy our customers as best we can. Lonnie and Scott service the pianos and organs in the tri-state area and beyond. Both of which have a degree in electronics. George has played professional most of his life; for presidents, first ladies, senators, church conventions, weddings, and funerals. He is also the staff organist at the beautiful Paramount Theatre in Anderson. George Smith's Music Center Inc, is soley owned and operated by the Smith family. We will be here for years to come, God willing, serving you with beautiful Hammond organs, acoustic/digital pianos, teaching, service as well as any other of your musical needs.
